California State Council of Laborers (LiUNA) Endorses Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria for State Senate District 14
70,000 strong LiUNA joins growing coalition of leading labor organizations united behind Soria for Senate
MERCED, CA – Today, Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria announced earning the endorsement of the California State Council of Laborers, the statewide organization representing more than 70,000 union construction and public works Laborers across California. The Council serves as the political and legislative voice of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA), one of the most influential forces advocating for infrastructure investment, worker protections, and economic opportunity across the state.
“Esmeralda Soria has always stood with working families and we’re proud to stand with her,” said Joseph Cruz, Executive Director of the California State Council of Laborers. “She understands what it means to fight for good-paying jobs, union protections, and the critical infrastructure our communities rely on. Whether it’s affordable housing, clean water systems, or safer roads and schools, we know Esmeralda will be a champion for Laborers across California.”
Assemblymember Soria has earned a reputation as a consistent and effective advocate for working people throughout her time in public service. As a Fresno City Councilmember and now in the State Assembly, she has prioritized local hiring, job training, apprenticeship programs, and long-term investments in sustainable infrastructure.
“I’m honored to have the support of the California State Council of Laborers,” said Assemblymember Soria. “The work these men and women do every day keeps our state running — and I’ll continue fighting for the fair wages, union protections, and opportunity every working family deserves.”
The endorsement adds to a growing list of labor organizations backing Soria’s campaign, including the United Nurses Associations of California (UNAC/UHCP), AFSCME Local 2703, California Federation of Teachers, Valley Building Trades, and others. Soria has also secured endorsements from Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, Attorney General Rob Bonta, and more than 100 state legislators and local leaders across Fresno, Merced, and Madera Counties.
